Show the Love

We love how our community has rallied around our GBS High School Seniors with banners and signs. The show of support is a reminder of what they are missing (i.e. Graduation) but also a celebration of all that is possible for these accomplished students. With car parades, sidewalk messages and signs in Downtown shop windows, celebrating milestones has been a big part of maintaining our sense of community while keeping our distance.   Thankfully, we are all able to get out and enjoy some better weather and the natural beauty that can be found around us. Enjoy a stroll Downtown for carryout at several Downtown restaurants and the comforting return of seasonal favorite, The Dairy Bar. And know that a smile, even through a mask, can still be seen in someone’s eyes.   And for those times at home, read below about new virtual events happening at Oil Lamp Theater, Twelve Tone Music School and the Library.  Please continue to send us photos and/or stories of great things happening around Glenview.  Wishing you good health until we can meet again Downtown.

I Scream, You Scream … Dairy Bar to the Rescue

Glenview’s beloved Dairy Bar is open for business with safety procedures in place. Dairy Bar asks that only one family member approach the window to place an order for your group. Please stand at least 6 feet away from others and wear a mask (have it cover your nose and mouth). Please order at the RIGHT window and pick-up at the LEFT window.

HOURS: daily 10:30 AM – 8 PM

2020 Memorial Day Ceremony Canceled

This year…

No thin crowds lining Glenview Road

No laughter from milling children

No salutes before the Glenview monument

Still a quiet respect for those who served

Still a memory of my uncle, a naval aviator, lost at sea

Still a fierce salute for those who served the nation

No long prayers

No solemn speeches

No crack of rifles before the war monument

Still a Memorial Day for those we lost

Still a quiet homage to those we lost

Still an ache on quiet Glenview Road

No crack of rifles

No thin hands waving small flags

Still a silent salute to those who served

Still on Glenview Road

…2020
